What exactly are growth hormones?

The idea behind genetically-engineered growth hormones in cows was to increase the amount of milk that a cow can produce. In 1993 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of recombinant, or genetically engineered, bovine growth hormone (rBGH), also known as bovine somatotropin, BST or rBST at dairy farms. When cows are injected with the rBGH, they have been known to produce 10 to 20% more milk.

If it is Growth Hormone Free, is it organic too?

No. To be organic the products must have all natural, organic ingredients, and come from cows that are raised organically.

How do I know if the milk I bought has Growth Hormones?

Since the FDA does not require that milk with growth hormones be labeled, it is up to you  - as a responsible consumer - to look for growth hormone free labels.

Our milk and cream products are all Growth Hormone Free... what does that mean?

Our customers have always deserved the best and most healthy products possible…pure and simple. That’s why we make sure that the milk we start with, from each farm, is full of the original goodness that comes from the cow, and is not altered in any way. Each of our farmers certify in writing that they do not use any growth hormones. It’s a promise they make to us, and a promise that we keep for you.
